The structure

We had seen it from afar when shooting “the winkle pickers”, a long jetty with a strange structure at the end of it:

Reader Ray, a.k.a. Rick(ety) Knees went to check it out and declared it interesting; so on Sunday we made an afternoon visit.

The jetty is accessed through the grounds of a religious school and the structure perched on the end was intended to be a temple; but a lack of funds or interest has resulted in something much more intriguing for photography, and we spent an enjoyable hour or so capturing various angles. Rick(ety) Knees assured me that when he had visited during the week it had been deserted; but on a Sunday afternoon there were many people there, most of whom were sporting Canikons. There is a popular spot near the start of the jetty where there is wooden planking which can serve as a foreground for a sunset shot; and places were being reserved a full hour before the sun was due to hit the horizon.

We will come back during the week for a sunset shoot. Meantime, here are some images:

Lovely shots, Spike. Thanks for sharing. A pity that the ‘Structure’ wasn’t build of rocks as otherwise, it arguably would be another stonehenge in a thousand years or so.

I wonder why they began to build before they had the money to finish. Normal here though, as you have so often documented.

Thank you very much for investigating and sharing (and in particular for adding a map), I have an interest in unusual temples, this one fulfills two criteria: built on water and abandoned.
