Thai Visa can fuck off

· 642 words · 4 minute read

I have a love/hate relationship with the Thai Visa website. It can be a useful source of answers to questions about everyday life in Thailand; and the photography area can be quite fun. The downside is the preponderance of whining, racist farangs who populate most of the site, and the aggressive levels of moderation which become evident at times.

Worst of all is the obscene amount of advertising which dominates every visit. I appreciate that these sites need to earn money to survive, or in this case prosper, but Thai Visa goes way over the top.

Visit the site and you are immediately presented with a banner suggesting how wonderful it would be if you signed up for their newsletter.

I did sign up for the their newsletter, sometime last year, and it arrives daily laden with adverts and links. But that doesn’t stop them inviting me to sign up again; every fucking time I visit.

But it gets worse, much worse. Try and access via your phone and you get this:

As much advertising as you can cram on the screen. And the advertisement in the middle runs for 20 seconds and you just have to sit and look at it; vowing to never, ever use whatever is being advertised, until the screen clears and you can view your selected topic which is also laden with imbedded adverts.

Drives me crazy. But I have to go there now to check the latest news on 90 day reporting. I hate myself.

That mean you won’t be following them on their new Line account?

I had a wise-like experience with TV many moons ago and said the same about TV. Until not even a moon ago I thought what the heck and started to have a look at TV again … within a week I knew why I closed the door to TV.

Clearly a case of needing Firefox and the AdBlock Plus plugin… not only does it come pre-loaded with all the most common advertising and banner-injecting sites [so they are automatically blocked] but you can train it too - adding your own custom blocks with no more than a right-click [or equivalent] from your mouse…

See here, for example:-

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

Other goodies to be considered would include:-

Better Privacy, for LSO cookies:-

All-in-One Gestures (can’t resist recommending this one to Spike…):-

Interesting rant as always, but I thought I was missing something that you’re getting for free so I logged into ThaiVisa again just to check. Nada. Nothing. No annoying adverts.

Is it me doing something wrong that I don’t get the adverts, or you that you do?

Try from your phone.

I never complain about something I’m getting for free. As you say, there’s some useful stuff on there. Plus plenty of whining farangs, but you don’t have to read them. Just read the article without the predictable comments.

Exactly my sentiments! I restrict visits to Thaivisa to what is absolutely necessary, nothing more. In addition, advertising slows my computer down and sometimes my browser doesn’t respond or crashes.

I wrote about it on my blog: http://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2014/12/what-fuck.html

Not a big fan of Thai Visa either, I agree completely OTT advertising and banners.

Thai Visa can be extremely useful for the what, when where info about Thailand.

However what nauseats me about T.V. is The Hang Em High Brigade, that wade in with comments like Som Nom Na, every time a Westener falls foul of Thai law for some comitting a misdemeanor.

Far too much intolerance and bigotry expressed in Thai Visa Forums for my liking - I agree “Thai Visa can fuck off”
