For no particular reason, I take she who must be obeyed out for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We have our usual haunts, but yesterday morning we decided to try somewhere different. The outlet had popped up on Facebook, looked promising; and so off we went to Livv Bakery in Soi Kao Talo.

Initital impressions were favourable. The staff was welcoming, the decor was charming and there was reasonable music playing; bring on the breakfast!
Perused the menu and chose some food. Called the waitress and ordered the food plus some coffee.
“Sorry, chef not come yet, cannot order food.”
Given that my food selection was a bowl of yoghurt with muesli and fruits, you would think you wouldn’t need a chef to throw it in a bowl; but they were not to be swayed.
“You could wait, chef should be here within 15 minutes” (he wasn’t).
Instead we decided to chose something from the bakery and I went wild by ordering a plain croissant and a cup of coffee. The coffee was served.
“Sorry, chef not come yet and bakery not fresh today. Have to wait till chef comes to make new bakery”.
So, having been served coffee; we now discovered that any form of breakfast was actually impossible. We debated whether to just walk out; but the coffee was OK so we decided to drink it and then go in search of a proper breakfast. Noting our glum faces, a waitress arrived.
“We have found fresh bakery in the back, we can warm and serve for you”.
We agreed and soon I had a croissant in front of me. It was warm, but it was certainly not fresh; in fact accusing it of being made the day before was probably being kind. I didn’t finish it.
No point in causing a scene, especially as “the chef” had still not arrived; so we paid the bill and left. Will never go back.
Still in search of breakfast, we went to Back Fabrik on Jomtien Second Road.

They have a chef who comes to work on time, an owner who is personable and present, and waitresses that don’t mess you around. Wide choice of food for breakfast (their omelettes are as spectacular as omelettes can be), really fresh bakery items (the baking smell when you walk is confirmation) and an all round good experience. Pretty much the opposite of Livv.

2014-09-01| Chang Noi saysHahaha had the same experience in Udon Thani once. Why bother to open your shop if you are not going to serve anything? But Back FabriK looks good. Might join you for a breakfast somewhere end of the month (as I have to be in the almost-not-anymore-sin-city of Thailand).
