Olympus EP1

S5087365

To be honest, this is not my camera; it belongs to my wife. But it sits in the same dry cabinet as the other gear, so…

My wife always assumed that cameras were large, complicated things; lugged around by idiots like me. That myth was dispelled when I bought a Panasonic GF1. Could she have something similar? Indeed she could, and she fell in love with the EP1, in white of course.

She ignored all suggestions to read the manual, but within a couple of weeks I was to find her lying on the pavement, manual focusing on a lizard; so I assumed she had worked out how to use it. Unlike my GF1, which I reduced to a mess, she has always kept the EP1 in pristine condition, and although she now has a Panasonic GM1, she still likes to use the EP1, although preferably with the Panasonic 20mm F1.7 attached; the Olympus 17mm kit lens is not that good.

Elegant little camera with gorgeous JPEGs, the EP1 sits alongside the GF1 as the cameras that brought Micro Four Thirds, and mirrorless cameras, into the public eye. I don’t think I will be allowed to sell it.
