I have had my Tair lens for a couple of weeks and had yet to try some direct comparison shots with the Jupiter 11. So I loaded both into my bag and headed out to Silverlake and environs to make some shots with each.

The Tair is bigger, heavier and more expensive that the Jupiter; so it would have to do something special to make it worthwhile favouring it over the little silver wonder. And the results of my admittedly limited test was that it was no better; in fact the Jupiter seemed to have the edge in sharpness, contrast and didn’t exhibit the chromatic aberration that appeared in some Tair photos. So it appears I have purchased an unnecessary tank. I will try it again with lights at night; but I don’t think the Tair’s twenty bladed aperture rings are going to save it from heading back onto eBay.
Here are some not particularly inspiring test shots, mainly taken with the Jupiter but with a couple of Tair shots thrown in. Which is which? Who cares?

Provided eBay stupidity doesn’t overtake anyone I can get one US based in the next 3 hours. Maybe I’ll buy it, test it and then resell it for a small profit if like you I find the weight a bit too much.
