Burapa Bike Week 2014

· 393 words · 2 minute read

In 2013 the Burapa Bike event was held at Silverlake, and the larger location attracted large numbers of bikes, hordes of interesting people, and therefore plenty of photo opportunities.

This year the circus reverted to the usual location of the sports stadium complex and seemed to suffer because of that. Consequently I took far fewer photos.

Most fun were the cowboys, who this year had erected a small portion of the wild west on the site. I thought their gun battle deserved a separate post.

The expected showdown with the Indians did not happen, probably because Big Chief Slightly Insane was busy taking selfies:

Bikers ranged from the predictably leather-clad to the “which planet are you from?” Here are some of them:

There were many people taking photos. This young lady looked like she would be an interesting person to discuss apertures with, but unfortunately her choice of camera made conversation unthinkable.

And the bikes Spike? You know, as in Burapa BIKE week? Well, once you have photographed the Snow Leopard, everything else seems irrelevant. Here’s a hot rod instead:

I would have taken the time to discuss the merits of micro 4/3 system with the lovely young lady and try and convert her. She would have been an easy convert after lugging that damn thing around all day long.

I have the idea that some Thai DSLR owners really do not have a clue that there are other cameras. Marketing at its best. It is all about image, right?

Take out the “Thai” and you are correct. This statement is less true in Asia (especially Japan) where mirrorless cameras have make respectable inroads into the camera market. It’s especially true in the West (especially America) where mirrorless has hardly made an impact.

Photography as a hobby seems very prevalent in Thailand (perhaps because the King is rarely seen without a camera), and there are some spectacularly good Thai photographers. This young lady sported a press pass and seemed to know what she was doing; at least she didn’t have the camera on Auto!
