Panasonic GM1 with Olympus 45mm, F2.5 at 1/16,000th second

Not a typo, 1/16,000th second! All hail the electronic shutter.

Amazing colors and sharpness. I’m often surprised by the shutter speed / aperture combinations you use. Of course where I live it is darker, so it is not perfectly comparable. ATM I’m confined to 1/125 to 1/160 (at ISO 100) and then F1.4 - F2.x. But last year in Thailand the max shutter speed I got was also not even near 1/16000. I always felt that D800 needs considerably more light than what I was used to from analog SLRs. Although I am using fairly good lenses with allegedly good light transmission ratios.

I was shooting straight into the sun, hence the high shutter speed. I don’t think even the D800 can rise above 1/8000th second… Colours are indeed surprisingly good, this was a JPEG straight out of the camera.

Yes, 1/8000 is the limit of the D800. According to snapsort your camera is also limited to 1/8000, you really cannot trust anyone these days :-)

I wonder, why opted for F2.5 and 1/16000 instead of getting a larger DOF with maybe 1/4000? Not that the image shows any blur, I just wonder.

I was trying to force the highest possible shutter speed; just to see if it could. Started at F1.8 but had to close down because there was so much light.

A beautiful picture for just a shutter speed test :) and some envy regarding the abundance of light. I was hoping to get outside to take a few pics this afternoon, as the morning had been sunny, but even before we were ready to go, the clouds started moving in…
