Regular readers will both have noticed that I have been upgrading my camera gear on a regular basis. It’s a sickness.
My wife however, whilst welcome to use my selection of lenses whenever I am not using them, apart from the really good ones, has not had a new camera body since she acquired an Olympus EP1 some four years ago. She seems happy enough to use my cast-offs; but I have been looking out for something that will give her a better experience and better photos; and will also be cute enough for her to want to use it.
Enter this:

It’s the Panasonic GM1 and it is very very small. You have to hold it to realise how small, but here it is being dwarfed by my E-M1:

Certainly cute, and she who must be obeyed is delighted with it. But it’s not just cute, it’s also an extremely competent little camera with the latest sensor out of the GX7. The provided 12-32mm lens is reckoned be one of the best kit lenses, and the Panasonic 20mm and the Olympus 45mm seen on it below will be excellent companions.

My wife is so busy working that I am sure I will have time to play with it and write a review in due course.

2013-12-28| Kevin Moore saysMy good lady has just seen this and wants to know why I didn’t buy her something small and cute like this instead of a second EM-1. Going to have to help me out here Spike and write a really crap review that she can see then I’ll let you know once she’s seen it and then replace it with a genuine review.
2013-12-28| Andrew saysMmmm …the gift that keeps on giving…looks like a fun little unit - should have picked up a couple in various colours to match the wardrobe changes…( then you would always have one to play with …)
2013-12-29| Spike saysJust tested it, it’s shit (will that do?).
2013-12-29| Kevin Moore saysJust showed my good lady your review comments and knowing your vast knowledge of all things photographic understands why i didn’t buy one for her. One slight downside to that favor you just did for me, when my good lady finally gets to meet your good lady next week they’re gonna disagree about this new camera and one of us is in the doghouse.
