Koyo!

· 253 words · 2 minute read

The colourful autumn leaves (koyo) are a popular tourist attraction in Japan, and Kyoto offers many of the more popular koyo viewing locations. So that is where I went, along with tens of thousands of Japanese. And now I am home, with a shitload of photos to play with and fond memories. Many photos of leaves to follow over the next few days; you have been warned.

Of course you had a wonderful time! Seen anything else as your camera? Let them come, the leaves. Nature, simply beautiful. Autumn is something I am missing here in Thailand. And of course long shadows and the light that comes with it.

And now that you have done the autumn colours you will have to go back in the spring for the cherry blossoms..!

The crowds for the autumn leaves are bad enough, I believe the cherry blossoms crowds are even worse; plus their arrival is even more unpredictable. I think I will pass.

Actually the crowds are only bad if you go to the tourist areas - there are colours and blossoms to be had crowd free off the beaten paths…and some of the nicest places are the smaller temples and shrines that everyone ignores…they still have lovely gardens and are quite photogenic ( if that’s what you want to take photos of….myself, I’m more partial to stuff like your door photo rather than the “postcard” stuff….
