2013-09-23| Richard H saysWhat to do:
- Buy minimum-fare ticket (Y130?)
- Travel to destination
- Insert ticket in excess-fare machine
- Read balance due
- Insert cash as appropriate.
Seriously, it’s as good a way as any to avoid the “what kind of ticket” dilemma when travelling in Japan. Or you could buy a watermelon…
For added entertainment: 2a Learn the departure melody of your chosen platform. (Travel often enough and you’ll find it burrows into your brain - and if you do forget, there’s a geocities.jp website devoted to them!)

2013-09-24| Andrew saysKyoto Eki sure seems to be spruced up since I was there last…hopefully you can at least do a day trip to Osaka to see the difference - old Japanese saying: “Kyoto people wear their money and Osaka people eat it”….
2013-09-24| Spike saysLooking out of my hotel window this morning, I appear to be there. Judging by the collection of shopping bags on the floor, she who must be obeyed’s motto has been “people in Osaka spend their money.”
2013-09-25| Andrewa saysNot sure how much time you have there but a trip to Shikoku is also definitely worth it ( used to be-maybe still available- a ferry from Osaka) as well as a trip to Hokkaido …but then you would be overflowing with shopping bags and would have to throw away your luggage you came with…also - the used camera shops in Japan can hide some great film camera steals - now that would be worth throwing away the luggage for…
2013-09-25| Andrew saysnot sure how I became Andrewa but it seems to fit the location
2013-09-26| Spike saysSadly run out of time, heading home today.
