I have previously mentioned my angel of a dentist, “previously” being about two years ago. I did have a very early draft tentative plan to visit her again for a checkup next month; but next month conveniently fails to arrive.
But my upper left gum started to develop some pain. I decided to wait until next week because I was confident that it would go away. After several next weeks went by and it just got worse, I decided I had to pay a visit to the house of pain.
The charming Doctor Bee had a fiddle around in my mouth and ordered an X-ray. While we were waiting for the result she advised that I probably needed root canal surgery. I have never had this before but I recall it was not the most pleasant procedure. Doctor Bee advised it would need three visits and she wrote down the cost, 17,000 baht. Gulp.
The X-ray came back and she told me that she was wrong, I did not need a root canal. Hooray! No, I needed two. Gulp.
She set to work and first it was injection time. Except she didn’t give me one; or if she did I didn’t feel it. Instead my gum just went numb by some magical process. Then away she went with the drill, singing away while she excavated my teeth. Her singing is so soothing, it feels foolish to get stressed, so I just relaxed and thought about buying stuff on eBay. An hour and fifteen minutes later she announced she was finished; and not just finished for the day, but finished finished. Turns out that once she had removed the decay which had been festering under old fillings, one tooth’s decay had stopped just short of the nerve, and the other tooth had already killed off the nerve from previous damage and grown fresh whatever it is that teeth are made of. This couldn’t be seen from the X-ray And the pain had been caused by rotten food trapped under in a crevice where floss can’t reach. She had solved that problem by creating floss wide space with the new fillings.
So instead of a bill for 34,000 baht, I received a bill for 3,300 baht for the two fillings and an X-ray, and not a moment’s pain or discomfort. A less scrupulous dentist could easily have gone ahead and carried out the root canal and made a bunch of cash for themselves, but Doctor Bee is not that sort of dentist. I love her (in a dentist/patient sort of way).
Can’t recommend her highly enough. Her clinic is called Dental-i-deas and you will find it on Pattaya Klang, on the same side as Foodland and a little further up the road towards Sukhumvit.
