With a macro shoot planned for this morning, I spent some time yesterday evening preparing my gear for the outing.
Camera with macro lens affixed - check. Spare battery, fully charged - check. Tripod - check. Remote release - check. Mosquito spray - check. Boots - check.
With everything in order and placed by the door for a speedy exit, I retired to bed; ready for an 0630 start.
Arrived on location this morning with Ian from PattayaDaze and picked up my camera. It was at this point that I realised that I had forgotten to check that the memory card was inserted, and it wasn’t.
I spent a joyless hour or so trailing around after Ian, spotting bugs for him, like this one:
Looked good when photographed with a macro lens, but not with an iPhone…
Bloody stupid, I need a proper checklist for the next trip; but then I will probably lose it or forget about it.
As a very small compensation, I dragged home an interesting looking flower, introduced my memory card to my camera again, and took a shot of it. Not enough compensation for getting out of bed at 0630.

2013-07-30| Donovan saysThe flower is a passionfruit of some kind - my quick survey of Wikipedia suggests that it’s this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinking_Passion_Flower (with petals still unfurled) Sadly not a Thai native, but pretty interesting, didn’t know there were any carnivorous Passionfloraceae. It will probably start smelling not too good as soon as the petals open…

2013-08-07| ChristianPFC saysMy camera (or was it my previous one? Don’t remember as I never used this feature) has a built-in memory, not as much as the memory card, but would be helpful in such a situation?
