Great shot of a difficult scene. Lovely composition and accurate exposure. Full range of white, greys and black as there should be in B & W photographs. I like the left hand shadow!!. Hefty tripod, by the way. What a lens!

Hi again. EXIF details would be interesting.

It’s a Three Legged Thing “Brian”, only 1.7 kilos. I think I will take it again with just the camera and tripod in the box, to bring out the lines of the tripod more. I liked the way the block of light on the left is in front of the bar window, and the bars in the middle are in front of the open window. The actual exposure showed more detail in the room, but I liked the shadow effect. Indeed the 7-14 is cracking lens, this was at 10mm.

But then processed in Silver Efex Pro 2.

The tripod shadow in the ‘box’, omitting the figure, would be dramatic. If you can get that shadow, and also the church spire in sharp focus this would be great. Presume it was the mid-day sun as the shadows are very strong. You would need the same time/ conditions.

I like this a lot!

Forgot to ask - what were you doing with your left hand?

2013-05-03 | John says

‘Shades’ of the late, great Henri Cartier - Bresson. His B & W photography used shadows perfectly.

I used the word ‘shades’ deliberately, by the way.

Well worth a large print for one’s study!! Might be worth offering to an agency.

Late afternooon, otherwise the shadows would not throw across the floor.

Holding it in such a way that people would ask, what are you doing with your left hand?

2013-05-03 | John says

I didn’t realise that Henri lived to the age of ninety-five. What a life!

Thanks to the link to the EXIF data on Flickr. The fact that the EM-5 chose the perfect White Balance, on Auto, speaks volumes for the camera.

What’s going on here? King’s new clothes anyone?

You’re right old chap, Emperors are at a bit of a discount these days. For daring to rock the boat, expect the next comment to be directly on the lines of The Courtier’s Reply…

2013-05-04 | Wally says

You posted it on Flickr 12 hours before you took the shot. Now that’s what I call impressive !!

2013-05-04 | Spike says

Accusing others of some form of dumb hypocrisy because they don’t share your views on something, smacks of arrogance. If you don’t like it, fine; unlike punctuation there are no rules as to what constitutes an enjoyable photo and not liking it is as entirely valid an opinion as liking it.

I have a couple of others coming up that you’re probably not going to like either. Less of the snideness and more of the “I think this is shit” would be much appreciated.

Is that enough of a Courtier’s reply for you?

2013-05-04 | Spike says

You’re just inviting more sanctions.

2013-05-04 | Grant says

Given that the Courtier has entirely missed the point, by way more than a country mile, yes, more than enough…
