On the board again

Regular readers may have noticed that I have not mentioned “windsurfing” for a while; or maybe they haven’t because nobody really gives a shit. But I have noticed it because it has become apparent to me that I have not been windsurfing since early January.

Truth be told, I have been going through something of a bad patch. I have been feeling listless, lacking energy and not in the mood for doing very much at all; certainly not in the frame of mind to drag myself down to the windsurfing club. A shame, because there has been some good wind.

I am not sure if this listlessness is down to old age, my continuing thyroid problem, or just one of those things that happens in life. Anyway, the choice seemed to be to slump into a sofa and await death; or do something about it. My recent foray into juicing was intended to maybe help kick start me back to life by improving my diet; and indeed it seems to have worked.

For the last two weeks I have tried to eat well with one meal a day being a veggie-based juice. I have mainly ignored the thousands of recipes on the web and come up with my own concoctions. Tonight’s meal was beetroot, carrots, red pepper and red apples thrown into the juicer and it looked and tasted wonderful. I named it “Simply Red”, not because of the colour but because all the rejected pulp had a striking resemblance to Mick Hucknall’s face.

We have also had fantastic fruit juices with our breakfasts and for the other meal I have tried to make healthy choices. Once you understand how much crap we shovel into our bodies, and how much that is directly responsible for our health, it becomes impossible to walk into a fast food joint (not that I normally do).

Anyway, two weeks of good living and I have lost approximately two kilos (approximately because I was not that concerned with shedding weight so didn’t keep a record when I started, and because our bathroom scales provide a different reading depending on the day of the week). Much more importantly, I do feel better. It is like a fog is lifting and I wake in the morning with plans for the day which I sometimes manage to execute.

Which is why I decided to spend a lovely breezy Monday afternoon going windsurfing. Managed an hour of mainly just sailing, with a few gusts of planing action near the end; very pleasant indeed. There really is nothing better than being out on the Gulf of Thailand in the sunshine on a windsurfing board.

I also had a tour of club owner Craig’s cultivation endeavours. He has all manner of growing mechanisms on the go; more than one of which feature blue plastic plumbing pipe, so naturally I was enthused. I wonder if she who must be obeyed will notice if I start a small farm on the balcony.

Glad to hear you’re feeling a little bit brighter and the new juicer regime is doing some good. Could probably do with some sort of similar regime for myself not only for the ingestion of some goodness for a change but a few kilo’s less would certainly help. Not sure if I actually need a juicer though as fruit here by the time it’s travelled chilled, moved around a bit and then finally sold to me by Tesco’s is starting to look part juiced when I get it. Hope the fresh air and a few waves leaves you feeling a lot better and refreshed.
