Hats and flags

Out on Beach Road this afternoon to take some photos of a marching band festival, and good fun it was too. Have a few shots to play with and will share later; but one in particular stood out.

Many of the bands had flag bearers, but they walked behind the band so it was hard to photograph their faces. But this lot had multi-colour hats, so a shot from behind was even more attractive. I walked behind them for a couple of hundred metres waiting for them to do their flag waving bit; and then fired off several shots when they did.

This one is the best, with the flags aloft, brightly coloured spectators on either side and a lady in traditional dress between the lanes. Even the manhole cover in the bottom left adds something. Only weak spot is a patch of sky, top centre, and that might be covered by a Photoshopped flag in due course. It’s crazy sharp, you can easily see the time on the wristwatch:

Lovely Olympus colours too, and all this pretty much straight out of the camera, apart from cropping to make it widescreen. I think this one may be heading for a printer.

Lovely shot Spike and yes you can read the time on the guy’s watch. This time tomorrow i’ll have my sticky little paws on the very same lens and can’t wait to have a play with it. Hope you didn’t get too sweaty with all that walking but if you did it was worth it, nice one.
