Luang Prabang - The end

· 485 words · 3 minute read

You will be pleased to know that this is the last post on Luang Prabang, although the photos from the Hmong New Year are still to come.

Two full days was not really enough, a week would have allowed me to see most of the town and settle into the flow of the place; maybe we will return some day.

She who must be obeyed was the usual wonderful travelling companion, and her mother was also a delight. She had a tiny little camera which she used to take more photos than I did, and her ability to speak Laos, together with her willingness to talk to anyone, meant she was a great unofficial tour guide.

My other fine companion was my camera and four little lenses. So easy to carry everywhere, and giving me all the shots I wanted (apart from the throttled ducks). Here are a few final images that didn’t fit in other posts:

A cross=eyed cat at a restaurant. I called him Adolf and gave him some fish. Shot in the semi-darkness at F1.4, ISO 2500 with the wonderful Summilux 25mm

Signs were dual language, Laos and another which I officially refuse to recognise.

Temple wall.

Right, must be time for some polo pony shots…..

The vast sums of money you have invested in photographic equipment has been well spent, methinks.

If you missed the morning procession of alms gathering you really missed a lot of Luang Prabang, especially as a photographer.

Amazingly, using an advanced accounting technique known only to me, I am pleased to announce that my expenditures on camera gear are actually treated as income.

The banking system used the same kind of obscure accounting techniques, and look where it got them.

We look forward to it. The previous bunch has been both educational and ….. and …. and … oh bugger it, words fail me; the pictures were great anyway. Thanks for your efforts in bringing them to us.

I’m going up to ศรีสะเกษ for New Year. Happy New Year to you and SWMBO and to all your readers; even Grant. I’ll shush now.

Thank you Pete, that’s very kind and a Happy & Prosperous New Year to you too, and all your sadly traumatised children, on whom may the sun never set…
