A morning trip to Khao Kheow Open Zoo. The hundred baht entrance fee, plus fifty baht per car, is excellent value and we spent several happy hours waiting in vain for animals to strike the required pose. I took the Olympus 75mm and the Panasonic 100-300mm and they both provided good service.

When we stopped to photograph the monkeys, they climbed all over my truck. This one has the look of “wide boy”, ready to sell you a dodgy stereo or steal your girlfriend.

2012-11-06| Robin Parmar saysstellar work!
2012-11-06| MarcusBurtBKK saysSome great snaps there, love the characters of the Meerkat, Giraffe, and Orangutan, nice work!
2012-11-06| Spike saysLooks like more of a Spanky to me. You are definitely a Meerkat.
2012-11-06| Grant saysWell done old chap, very very nice indeed, great stuff! Those Meerkats even look way cuter than Yourcats…
2012-11-06| Jan saysbrilliant !!
2012-11-07| Barry saysBrilliant indeed.
2012-11-07| Spanky saysMy eyes would be slightly more glassy but it’s close enough.
2012-11-07| Dude saysThese are some very nice photos! I really like the framing and I’m impressed by the colors. Did you use auto whitbalance? Did you shoot jpg? My GX1’s AWB seems quite accurate most times but under bright sunlight color-temperature is a little too cold for my taste. Your photos don’t seem to have a blue cast. Did you remove it or was it never present in the first place?
2012-11-07| Pete says9 replies so far and no-one’s even mentioned Achtung Baby. Your talent at naming posts seems to be wasted. Some readers actually seem to think that it’s all about the photograpic content!
Nice pictures, by the way.
2012-11-07| Spike saysI always shoot RAW with AWB. Didn’t have to change the white balance on any of these.
2012-11-07| Spike saysGreat album, perfect title, don’t like Zoo Station as a track. You’re so Cruel though… “She wears my love like a see-through dress”, I think we’ve all been there.
2012-11-07| Spike saysI’ve told them you said that; don’t come round expecting to leave with an intact jugular.
2012-11-07| Grant saysSpanky’s got a ’loyalty’ card, every tenth one free…
2012-11-07| Grant saysAre your lips always that out-of-focus?
2012-11-07| Grant saysI shall wear a scarf of finest high country carbon-fibre, Merino ain’t got the tensile strength. Tell the cats that any attempted attack on the person may result in an impromptu pet shampoo…
2012-11-07| Spanky saysWaiting for the San Miguel Brewery to give me a loyalty card. Bastards.
2012-11-07| Grant saysTold you they were weasels…
2012-11-08| Spanky saysNot weasel piss!
2012-11-09| david saysWhat PP did you do to make the pictures look so sharp? Or is the 75mm lens that good?
2012-11-09| Spike saysIt’s that good; although I usually pass my images through The Tweak: 2012_01_the-tweak
But with the 75mm I apply very little sharpening because they are so sharp to start with; it is the second best lens I have ever used; and the best one cost me $5,000.
2012-11-09| Spanky saysWhen you sell your inferior GX1 and buy the superior EOS M you can use that 300mm Canon monstrosity with the fast focusing adapter that Canon sells.
2012-11-09| Spike says“When”… the GX1 has already been sold and the beautiful EOS M has been in my hands for three hours now. Sadly it has yet to focus successfully on anything; but even the blurry shots confirm that the four year old sensor is shit. Still, it is easy to learn the controls; because there aren’t any. $800 well spent I reckon.
2012-11-09| Spanky saysGood on you for seeing that Canon has the superior product! Don’t worry about the focus issue. I’m sure they will release a firmware update in a few years to address it.
2012-11-25| david saysWow! You sold your GX1? What are you gonna do with all these M43 lenses? And where is your EOS M review?
2012-11-25| Spike saysYou need to reset your sarcasm sensor, it appears to be broken. I wouldn’t take an EOS-M if you offered it to me for free.
2012-11-25| david saysLol, I wasn’t that sharp this morning :-)
I am still happy with my X-100 and intend to buy a X-E1 with the 35mm f1.4 within a couple of hours/days/weeks (watching those ebay auctions). Will add the 56mm f1.4 early next year when the release it.
2012-11-25| Spike saysThe XE-1 looks like a lot better deal than the Pro. I have no intention of buying an RX1….
2012-11-25| Grant saysWith you there Spike, not that fussed on Mazdas meself either…
