Yellow, with wheels on

· 510 words · 3 minute read

Short of spotting a bar girl with a neon sign on her head flashing “I love you long time”, there is not much of interest in the way of new business enterprises in Pattaya. New estate agents spring up almost daily, soon to disappear with as many deposits as they can stuff in a small briefcase. Beer bars are opened by hopeful alcoholics and close as soon as any profits have been consumed. So how delightful to discover this:

Yellow things, with wheels on, looking cute, how could I resist?

I couldn’t, so went and met the owner; an affable chap by the name of Mitch who fell off his normal motorbike, broke many bones, and then thought maybe three wheels would be safer. An obvious next step to a man of entrepreneurial inclinations would be to buy several of them, paint them yellow, and rent them out to people who fancy something a little different. So he did.

Looks like fun, and if I had a motorcyle licence I would hire one, just so I could park it in front of things and photograph it. But for those of you who want to impress that girl with the neon light on her head, Happy Three Wheeler can be found on third road, just before the bridge overpass that leads to Bali Hai pier.

Spike, I can just see you on one of them … SWMBO driving the bike and you in the sidecar ;-)

It is being considered…

I does not look like a BMW-S501 but never mind as in Thailand you do not need a driver-license anyway. Tiger makes nice retro-side-cars.

Oh dear - another three wheeler to make the traffic go even slower in Pattaya. Any clues as to why these ones have red plates from Chantanaburi instead of Chonburi?

2012-09-07 | Spike says

Yes. They are made by the CTF (Chantanaburi Tricycle Factory) Enterprises Ltd. As the name suggests, the factory is in Chantanaburi, therefore it is logical that the vehicles should registered there. Chonburi, on the other hand, is not a hotbed of three wheeled nirvana production.

OK, no, I have no idea.

Mitch seems to be pitching for the Russian market; how long before we get a headline in the papers about someone getting arrested for having sex in the sidecar while doing 60 down second road?

2012-09-08 | Spike says

No idea, but I volunteer to take the photographs.

Definite potential for a scam, (a la jet skis).

I am back from my travels so now catching up so late to comment. I so want one! I may be contacting Mitch.

Excellent! Mitch does a Marx Brothers sidecar mounting, just for Americans…
