Off to Bangkok yesterday in preparation for visiting my thyroid doctor this morning. Arrived mid-afternoon and for the want of something better to do, I went and saw Prometheus.
I used to think that Ridley Scott hadn’t made a bad film; but then I watched Grey. Two hours of macho posturing in a constant blizzard, interrupted occasionally by the appearance of some unconvincing wolves. Sorry for the plot spoilers.
And to be honest, Prometheus isn’t one of his greatest efforts either. I went to watch it at one of the high end screens in Paragon, and 280 baht got me a comfy seat, a fantastic sound system and a crisp 3D picture. And the movie certainly delivered in terms of visuals and sound; it’s easy to see how they spent $150 million making it. I just wish they had spent some of the money on the script and the story.
Intriguing ideas are introduced and then not followed through, there are plot holes and inconsistencies, and overall the thing just doesn’t hold together. It needs a sequel to plug the gaps and maybe that is the intention. Still, it barrels along at a fair pace for a couple of hours and is never boring; so I am glad I saw it. I trust it will be totally overshadowed by Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises which will be coming to the Imax cinema next month and I will be in the queue for tickets.
Met with the doctor this morning and the thyroid has now settled down. Three months since I took the radioactive pill so it should have pretty much completed its death throes by now. The next three months see the pill intake being steadily reduced and after six months we will know how much damage has been inflicted; hopefully enough.
Back home early afternoon to download the Canadian Grand Prix and a damn fine race it turned out to be. An evening Margarita and something with beans to round of a most satisfactory couple of days. Time for bed.
