It is with some relief that I checked out of my isolation ward this morning and returned home. During my detention I have been allowed day release to have the occasional meal with my wife; provided we sat a suitable distance apart and I did not attempt to exchange any bodily fluids. But that hardly constitutes a marriage.
As of lunchtime today I will be declared a low-risk radiation area and only have to avoid extended cuddling with pregnant woman or babies for another couple of days; and those are not on the list of things I need to do this week. So, hurrah!
I had wondered what the effects of radiation treatment, an over-active thyroid, beta-blockers and steroids would have on my system. To that list of factors I should have added the need to eat on a continual basis and the answer would have been more obvious: a massively upset stomach.
It’s probably the snacking that pushed Mr. Tummy into disaster mode. Last night for example I had a perfectly reasonable meal; but then went back to the hotel and felt the need to eat more. What I had available was a packet of raisins, a large pile of liquorice, some bitter chocolate and a bottle of orange juice. So I ate all of them within the space of thirty minutes. At 0430 this morning this proved to have been a bad idea (particularly the liquorice). After a comprehensive poop, I spent the next hour feeling sad and farting.
This pretty much replicated the experience of the previous two nights (although different snacks were involved) and I am concerned that I may ruin my return to the marital bed tonight by assaulting she who must be obeyed’s acute sense of smell. Life is never easy.
Anyway, now I am offloading the massive amounts of movies and TV I downloaded courtesy of the hotel’s wifi, then it is time to dust down the lenses and get ready to shoot some horses.
Might need to go for a crap first though.
