It’s been a busy week, low-light of which was a trip to Bangkok on Wednesday to attend a meeting of our condo committee. Somehow I ended up as secretary to the committee, which means I spent some time before the meeting preparing for it, and some time after the meeting writing the minutes to reflect what I wanted them to say rather than what actually happened (one of the perks of the job). Then of course there was the kissing contest to be photographed and written about and other mundane tasks such as lining up documents for my retirement visa extension next week.
And then there was a condo to photograph. We have a friend with a condo who wants to rent it out and needed some snaps to stick on the advertisement. Who’s she gonna call?
The condo has big, bright windows, which means the photos did a good job of displaying blown-out highlights in the window area rather than highlighting what a desirable residence it might be:

This meant I had no choice but to shoot five images at varying exposures and then blend them together to produce an HDR image. I am not a fan of HDR photos, and certainly have no skills in their production, which is probably why the resulting effort looked so false.

Never mind, I resolved the problem by going back last night and shooting at dusk. Much happier with the shots:

Still, this was just a favour for a friend and I don’t think I have the skills/equipment to do this professionally.
All of this activity has just been putting off the big outstanding task, the processing of the 2,500 polo photos I took last weekend. Having run out of other jobs that need to be done, I suppose I better get on and tackle them. Here’s an early one that I like, just for Grant:

Really makes you want to ask ‘where’ and ‘how much’, the daylight ones are a yawn by comparison. Sell these skills to the local condo sharks and you could become unusually wealthy…
2012-02-18| Spanky saysThe evening shots are really good. They added warmth of the lighting with the buildings lit up at night in the back ground makes it almost perfect. I would complain about the glue on the hoof but I have been inflicting bird and flower pictures on people.
2012-02-19| Sid saysHow come there is stainless steel railings on the inside of the windows in the night shot yet they are completely non existent in the daytime shots?
2012-02-19| Spike saysWell spotted Sid (I certainly never noticed!). Checked with the owner and she had the rails installed in between the two shoots.
2012-02-19| Grant saysAnd to think we all thought you’d used a Photoshop condo railings programme…
