It’s she who must be obeyed’s day off, and we head off to Bang Saray for a seafood lunch. There is one particular restaurant that we have been frequenting for years, right next to the water with great food at reasonable prices.
Over lunch we discuss Pattaya Days and the recent Jeff event.
You have to stop being rude.
I like being rude, I’m English and it’s what we do best.
No more Jeff pieces.
Oh, alright.
And stop being nasty about property developers.
Not sure I can go that far.
But I made an attempt and on the way home we checked out some developments that have previously been subject to the scorn of Spike.
I had previously mocked the difference between the mock-up model and the actual site for The Axis. Passing there today, it was a little heartening to see that they had actually started building the thing, in fact they were making pretty good progress.

So, well done The Axis.
Next up was White Sands Beach, originally known as The Sails, and of the weirder property stories which I have covered previously. First there was The Sails project, and it looked like this:
Then the project folded, the partially built structure was abandoned, and the project rose again on an adjacent plot, renamed White Sands Beach and looking very similar to The Sails:
A stump of a building rose from the ground, and then work stopped just as it had on The Sails. But now Movenpick have moved in and are going to turn half of the building into a hotel; so you can share the common facilities with a tour group from Kazakhstan and enjoy their karaoke experience into the wee small hours. Where do I sign?
Never mind, at least they have started building, which is more than most projects seem to manage. So well done White Sands Beach.

Finally, The Beaches near Bang Saray, or next to Theppasit Road if you believed their development map. The project has been underway for more than three years and garnered some unpleasant publicity when one of the directors disappeared with a bag of cash.
Undaunted, the project team forged ahead with the development which is a pretty ambitious venture.
Last time I was there, more than a year ago, the only person that would speak to me told me that we were going to start with building the waterpark, which is tiny little piece of the overall map. Still, it’s a start and I was excited to go back there today to see the happy children splashing around on the aquatic amusements. I was to be disappointed:

The Beaches? No bloody way it will ever be completed. Good start on the waterpark and I remain cautiously optimistic

2011-11-09| Lloyd saysI would have to agree with SWMBO.
I have posted comments that in hindsight I would have withdrawn, through jealousy or internal personal anger words come out that we often regret.
I may not have been the only one but I contacted Andrew Drummond about your blog, even after your public ridicule, and as much as it hurt and because I post with my real name, I knew you were right.
To see your blog offline because of certain element of society whom the vast majority of the world dispised was wrong, very wrong, your words are about as honest and genuine as anyone online can be.
Thats it, now I’ll crawl back into my hole and hope you carry on blogging, with less Polo Ponies :-)
2011-11-09| Dan saysAye welcome back. As far as I’m concerned you can be as rude as you like, but then that is easy for me to say.
2011-11-10| Spanky saysSo you are saying that I should not schedule a visit out to the White Sand Beach property to put a deposit down? :P
2011-11-10| Barry saysThe property updates are some of your most enjoyable pieces. Long may they continue.
2011-11-10| Spike saysSaw comments from Lloyd on Drummond and wondered if it were you; thanks for the support. I will try and limit the polo ponies; but there is some stuff coming up on that other thing.
