Perfection, eight hundred and twenty five times

I put a significant dent in my credit card this week with the acquisition of a new camera. Today was the day I was to find out whether it was worth the money.

Yes, sorry, but it was polo again, where I would estimate a previous success rate of around 70% sharp enough photos, and about 20% “make your eyes bleed they are so sharp” sharpness.

Today I took 825 polo shots. Having had a first look on the computer I would estimate 100% sharp enough photos, and at least 95% in the eyes bleeding category. Lovely colours, perfect exposure; great shots.

Here’s an example, click on it should you wish to see a larger than normal version.

Very pleased with the camera, not so pleased at the number of images I now have to process.

An excellent picture of flying horses, as always. Not a hoof on the ground. (Except maybe that white one in the back, but he’s out of focus so who cares?) Camera should have paid for itself in that one picture alone - no?

Great to see the horses back. I would prefer to see them galloping around a racetrack but never mind. I do miss the race track girls you used to photograph as I am sure you do too. But there are always your other pussies to photograph.

No, but the neck strap is probably paid for.

Some track girls would be nice. I could even photograph them.

2 nerdy questions for you… Can I ask what lens you were using on this shot please? Guessing an L-Series? And… I notice that the (vast) majority of your Micro Four-Thirds shots are all taken with fixed-focus lenses and am interested as to the reason for this - I wonder if this purely from your drive for tack-sharp focus, your love of shiny new toys, or other reasons? Stunning shot btw…

I love nerdy questions. The lens is a 300mm F2.8L. Great, great lens.

Prime lens will always give you a better photo than a zoom; so that’s the preference. Plus it give more excuses for shiny new toys.
