Farewell to she who must be obeyed

She who must be obeyed’s journey to employment continued last week when she went to met her new boss. Salary was discussed and she suggested that the job was perhaps worth a little more than was being offered. Boss agreed and bumped up her starting salary.

Two days later she is back with the HR department to sign some papers, and the boss calls down.

“I have discussed your salary increase with Bangkok and they are not happy with the figure”. “Oh.” (Worried voice) “Yes, they think you should be paid even more than that; so we are adjusting your salary upwards”. “Oh.” (Delighted voice)

I think I am beginning to like her new employer.

On Sunday we headed off to Bangkok with a truck full of clothes and deposited her in a serviced apartment. Pleased to find that the room was large, clean and with good security; but that didn’t stop her adding to the three locks on the door with one of the four door stoppers she had brought with her.

Close to the skytrain and food supplies, she is all set for her month of training. I stayed overnight on Sunday and we were up at 0600 on Monday so she could head off for a welcome to your new company seminar and I could head back down the road to Pattaya. Within an hour she had sent an “I miss home, you and the cats” SMS; although I suspect the cats are top of the miss list.

So, here I am with four weeks to kill before she returns. What to do? Well, I think I will start with this:

Hmmmm…. So what does your typical married Pattaya expat do when his wife is away for a month??

Doubt if XBOX is top of the list…..

I am not your typical married expat then. But you are right, Xbox is probably not top of the list; an extended Shogun Total War campaign on the PC is probably first choice.

Hopefully you are not going to leave the poor woman up there all that time. I’m sure you will do the dutiful thing and pop up to see her at least once a week.
