If you asked those who know me to describe me in two words; “fantastic dancer” would not be their first choice. But that’s just because they haven’t seen me in action
I am, by my own admission, a wonderful mover. My style is loosely based upon the observation of sufferers of Sydenham’s chorea, a heady mixture bordering on the edge of chaos, but always firmly anchored to the beat.
Sadly, my family does not agree. This maybe because I am prone to demonstrating my dancing ability in the middle of supermarkets. This tends to cause chronic embarrassment to the accompanying family member; previously The Son, and lately, she who must be obeyed.
As a result, I have to confine my dancing to occasional sorties around the house. Which means that I can be fairly confident in saying that I have never been to the X-Zyte disco in Pattaya.
Pattaya discos are of two varieties. There is a version aimed at foreigners where the main purpose is to serve as a large open space for picking up girls. Then there is the Thai version, where the main purpose is to serve as a large open space for getting pissed and then trying to shoot someone at another table who happened to glance at you. Neither appeals, and as I am forbidden from dancing in public there seemed little point in going.
And now, any chance I may have had in attending X-Zyte has disappeared, because they are knocking it down.
Once they have removed the rubble they are going to build another IT centre. If it is anything like the current offering, Tuk Com, it will feature broken escalators, endless stalls of ladyboys selling tacky mobile phone covers, zero original software and shitty laptops. Can’t wait.
