Off to Bangkok for a quick visit.

Main purpose, for me, was to take my Canon into the Canon Service Centre so that it could have a clean and a calibration check. “Come back in three hours” said the receptionist, and handed me a bit of paper with which to claim back the camera. To fill in the time, I took The Son off to AV Camera for a spot of lens purchasing. On the way, I decided to check the bit of paper to see if there was a number to call to check completion. There wasn’t, mainly because I couldn’t find the piece of paper. I must have dropped it somewhere, and some street urchin was probably already presenting it to Canon and walking off with my $5,000 camera body.

Hurried back to Canon whilst being regaled with witty stories by The Son about the lucky person who would now be enjoying my ex-camera (reminder to self: amend will), and presented myself at reception with stern instructions to only give the camera back to the chiseled demi-god stood before them.

Lost paper issue solved, it was back to AV Camera for the lens I had been planning to acquire for some time. Test to follow, you have been warned. Then back to Canon where a 350 baht service fee and a copy of my driving licence put the Canon back in my hands. Looks all sparkly and fresh; just hope the dust that layered the sensor is now gone.

Mission complete, what to do in Bangkok on Vesak day, one of the most important days in the Buddhist calendar? How about a trip to famous temple for a photo-taking opportunity? Too bloody hot, so instead we went for a three hour buffet lunch blow-out at a Bangkok hotel.

Suitably refreshed, how about spending the evening at a temple watching the parade of monks and candles? Too much hard work, so instead we headed to the Imax cinema for a couple of hours of Fast 5.

Completely brainless entertainment. Vin Diesel and The Rock trying to out-testosterone each other. Gal Gadot trying to be a hot babe, and succeeding. More plot holes than you could count and action sequences that defied the laws of physics. I loved every minute of it.

So, no temples visited in Bangkok; but that didn’t matter because the next stop was to be Ayutthaya, which is 99% temples and 0% Imax cinemas. There will be photos. Like this one:
