The Thai version of Buddhism is a little mixed-up, incorporating deities from other beliefs if they can add some value or amusement; and you can’t get much more amusing than a pink Ganesh, as installed at Wat Saman Rattanaram, near Chachoengsao.

I don’t know if it was the impact of the colour, but the pose looks a little gay to me; which is not something that Ganesh is known for. But he is known for having attending rats; and they were on hand in a variety of colours.

Audience participation was driven by a superstition that whispering a wish into an ear of a rat, whilst ramming a fist into the other ear so that the wish could not escape, was a guarantee of good times; unless you wished for something stupid, as the guy below looked like he was about to do.

All good fun and I wish Christianity and Islam had similar initiatives to liven things up a bit; a purple Judas in a tutu would be a start.
