Had a perfect weekend planned. Windsurfing on Saturday, followed by a trip to Nanotrax on Sunday to watch the Chinese Grand Prix and then stay for the weekly radio controlled car race where I could delight in coming last; again.
Off to windsurf and needed some sustenance before hitting the water, provided by a ham sandwich and a fruit cake from a local supermarket; neither of which offered an expiry date. Off for a sail and had the feeling that the fish were about to see my makeshift lunch. The queasy feeling continued into the evening and by Sunday morning I felt capable of slumping in a chair and doing not very much.
Which meant I never made it to Nanotrax. A positive outcome from this was that I watched the rather excellent BBC coverage of the Grand Prix; rather than the totally hopeless commentary from Star Sports. Hell of a race too.
Post race, and still in slump mode, I fired up Total War: Shogun 2, and continued my quest for domination. Had been doing quite well, but I had opened the doors to some traders who brought Christianity along with their trade goods. Soon, some of my provinces were converting from Buddhism and getting upset that I was still a Buddhist. So I converted to Christianity. Bad move; my honour dropped and the provinces that were still Buddhist rebelled against me. Can’t please all of the people all of the time, but you can kill those who get too displeased; so I spent a few game years crushing rebellions with extreme prejudice. The buggers are still grumbling and I can see that a restart is going to be required, and next time I will not entertain any Christian advances.
Lessons learned from the weekend? Avoid dubious cakes and Christianity; I must reinforce these crucial messages, without context, to The Son once he returns from his latest travels.

2011-04-18| Billy the Brush saysI intend praying for you too, though have yet to decide which brand of the one true God to aim it at … I hear the 7th Day Adventists have a sale on, sort of two saved souls for the price of one, I could do you and Jock at the same time …. And get one of their groovy Xmas calendars into the bargain …

2011-04-19| Mark Damaroyd saysYeah, I reckon that cake has a lot to answer for. The ham sandwich almost certainly was fine – otherwise it would have crawled away. But in your hallucinating state, brought about by cake-induced fever, the grand prix probably seemed a trifle slow.
