Anyone seen some guns?

In my previous life we ran seismic operations in Thailand (when I say “we”, I mean people who actually understood these things), which required the use of explosives. The explosives store was managed by the army and was extremely tightly controlled. Attempts to remove the explosive for nefarious purposes would have been impossible. It would be reasonable to assume that similar controls are in place over weaponry.

So, we should be alarmed and surprised at the news that “130 M16 assault rifles, motars, 11-mm pistols and Minimi rifles” have taken flight from an army base. But of course, we are not. There was a similar incident at another base last year and there will be more in the future.

Alarmists pronounce that the weapons have been stolen to equip a red revolution, but the reality is likely more mundane. In an environment of corruption and inefficiency, they have been nicked by soldiers for sale to anyone who fancies owning an M16. Personally, I think a Minimi rifle sounds rather cute, and if they have them in orange I am interested in buying one. Please use the Contact form.

yeah, orange sounds cute, though the light blue might be cuter still, trust they have magnetic Smart Covers …
