My browser has a drop down list of the latest headlines from the BBC. Useful for watching out for the latest in world events such as “Russia warns over Korean tensions” and “UN chief rejects Ivorian pullout” and “motorist hurt as car leaves road”. WTF?
Yes, the BBC considers it breaking world news if a car leaves the road in Glenrothes:

Presumably this is a rare occurrence in the UK, where cars very politely stay on the road all the time.
Not so Thailand, where a journey is not complete unless you have witnessed, or preferably been a passenger in, a vehicle that has left the road/climbed a tree/inserted itself in a shop. So I rather hoped that the BBC headline related to a regular Pattaya Days reader who will remain nameless (Antz) who managed to spin his car into a ditch a couple of days ago.

In his defence, the spinning into the ditch manoeuvre was aided by the fact that a dick in a truck had removed one if his rear wheels at high speed first. But really, Antz has to try harder. His car looks barely damaged and he only hurts a little bit. I must remind him that, if you are going to have a crash, have a proper one by rolling the car several times and putting yourself in ICU, which regular readers (hello Mum!) will recall I succeeded in doing a couple of years ago.

Now THAT’S an accident worthy of a headline on the BBC (not that it got one).

2010-12-19| Antz saysThe car is for sale….. It’s a collectors item. Don’t all rush now…
2010-12-19| Spike saysOne careful owner, never raced or rallied, needs a wash (and a wheel).
2010-12-19| genuinej saysNot much of note happens in Scotland these days. Careering all of six feet and in a downward direction is well newsworthy. The BBC has been crap for years, and it too continues to career downwards. Maybe the BBC will do a follow up story, when the condition of the paramedics is known.
2010-12-20| Keyser Soze saysSeems some of the editors for the Beeb are from Thailand and used to work for the Pattaya Daily News… Who ever heard of a car ‘careering’ off the road… Careening maybe, but never careering…
2010-12-22| Barry saysI’m in media and know that, like most businesses these days, organisations are saving money. The Beeb does so by hiring too many kids who know fcuk all, because they’re cheap. Same goes for newspapers. A generalisaton, but a trend that has existed for some time.
The human race is dumbing down. Strange, isn’t it.
2010-12-22| Spike saysAnd now we have lost Brian Hanrahan.
