Pattaya Vegetarian Festival 2010

· 393 words · 2 minute read

It’s the same every year. A bunch of dragons and assorted dancers set off from Bali Hai pier and march across town until they get tired. Then they are picked up and taken to Naklua, which will host vegetarian food stalls for the next ten days. She who must be obeyed advises me that we will only eat vegetarian food for the duration of the festival; I remain dubious.

Anyway, it is good to arrive early to snap some characters before the parade commences.

Was just getting ready to take this shot…..

….when a man walked in front of my camera. I decided not to complain:

Point a camera at a Thai, and you will get a V sign:

Damn, it’s hot in here:

Waiting to dance:

Three heads:

This place may be disorganised chaos at times; but the Thais are very good at organising events like this. Plenty of men with walky-talkies ensured that dancing dragons and firecrackers started the parade slightly ahead of schedule; and then they all headed off down Walking Street.

You’re never too old to enjoy a parade:

The question that should always be posed of vegetarians is of course, “what have you got against vegetables?”

Loved the photos, not least the close ups of the older folk, glad I won’t have you round to capture my “smile lines” in my dotage ….

Some Phuket Veg 2010 pictures on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamiemonk. I was in Phuket Town this morning for one of the big processions, madness it was. I filled a 2GB memory card and will sort some images out in the next couple of days :)
