Offshore projectile vomiting

I like to think I maintain a pretty rigorous exercise regime. Only last week I took a one hour walk down the beach, and I vaguely recall doing something slightly strenuous last April. A man has to keep in shape.

Core to my physical well-being is windsurfing, but a combination of no wind, man flu, assorted other ailments and general laziness has kept me off the water for a couple of months. Until yesterday. A fresh wind from the North East promised much, and I soon had my windsurfing bag ready to go.

Not so fast. One of she who must be obeyed’s friends was en route with lunch; so we had to consume that first. There was pizza; of a variety that must have been described on the menu as double cheese special with extra cheese and a cheese topping; plus mould. Yes, they had used a cheese which featured mould as an ingredient and there were smears of what looked like snot on top of the cheese. Tasted more like mould than snot so that was OK.

A few slices of cheese and snot, and I was full; and a little queasy. But wait, there’s more! Did I want a slice of expresso cake? Is the pope Jewish? Of course I didn’t, I was full of cheese and snot. But I can’t resist expresso cake; so that was soon mixing it up with the cheese and mould in the disaster area that was now my stomach.

Finally, we went to the club, just in time to see a big storm brewing downwind, which killed the good wind. Determined to sail, I went out anyway and just cruised around. Very pleasant, until the motion of the waves reacted with the contents of my stomach and…

Let’s just say that, after I have eaten a meal, I do not relish the prospect of seeing it again.
