It was seventy years ago today, and forty yesterday

A glance at the Google home page this morning will remind you that it is John Lennon’s 70th birthday, possibly the best ever export from Liverpool; apart from Billy.

A slightly lesser known anniversary, and not celebrated by Google, occurred yesterday; the 40th anniversary of the death of Mit Chaibuncha.

Mit was a famous Thai movie actor and was filming on Jomtien beach. An exciting scene where Mit would hold onto a ladder attached to a departing helicopter. The helicopter departed, but Mit did not hold onto the ladder; and he plunged to his death.

A shrine was duly constructed and it stands today next to the gorgeous cement plant which is pretending to be the site of the Ocean 1 development. We went to take a look (at the shrine, not the cement plant) and the place was very busy with devotees of the “acts, but can’t hold onto a ladder” celebrity.

She who must be obeyed told me that people came to pay respects and make wishes; because sometimes the wishes came true. I decided to have a go and wished that John Lennon had not been shot. No results as yet.

“possibly the best export from Liverpool”? There are other candidates for such an honour, viz: Comedians Arthur Askey & Ken Dodd, Anthony (father of ugly cow Cherie) Booth, poofter Kenny Everett, musician/composer Paul McC, ginger c*nt Cilla and mega comic Les Dennis to name but a few.

Given your list; I rest my case.

More years ago than I care to remember, I did Les Dennis’ VAT returns … one time he came to the office to sign something or other and insisted on bunging me a tenner … about a week’s salary at the time … unhappily I have to say that I have never found him funny ..
