The joy of jacuzzi

After some surprisingly excellent navigation by she who must be obeyed, we found ourselves in Hua Hin. The rationale for the visit was based on a question by SWMBO, “shall we go to Hua Hin?”; with the only reasonable response being “yes”.

After checking out a typically Thai hotel, with shit-stained wood and an odour of decay, we chanced upon the Amara Resort.

The reception was charming….

…and the room was crisp, clean and large:

Best of all, in the outdoor bathroom area, hidden from a putting green by a screen of bamboo, there was a jacuzzi.

I think I love jacuzzis. I have to ponder my potential affection because I rarely have the chance to indulge. When I designed the interior of my condo, I allowed for the installation of a bath with jacuzzi jets; but it takes so damn long to fill that I barely use it.

But here was the real thing. A big tub where I could recline with she who must be obeyed, play with bubbles and sip imitation champagne (beer).

Started the hot water running, but it was so slow that I reckoned it would be the following morning before the tub was full. So mixed in a little cold and waited. After about an hour it was deep enough to sit in, so I lowered myself into the now-tepid water and pretended I was having fun. The water level was still nowhere near the jacuzzi jets, so I called upon my wife to demonstrate Archimedes’ principle and join me. Still not enough, so we both contorted our bodies such that all but our heads were under water. So now we were cold and uncomfortable; but we had raised the water level to just above the jets. Jacuzzi time!

Pressed the button and jets of water were injected into the tub. Problem was, the water in the jets had been lying in wait for some time, maybe for ever; and what came out was a milky mess that smelled like farts in a bath, only much worse. Cold, uncomfortable and now assaulted by dirty, smelly water; we jumped out of the jacuzzi and headed for a hot, cleansing shower.

Jacuzzis suck; but the hotel was great.
