She likes it hard

She who must be obeyed likes it hard.

It took me a while to accommodate her desires, but now I like it hard too. Our mattress of choice is a Slumberland orthopedophile extra-hard concrete slab. For the first few days I found it hard (sic) to sleep and considered the mattress to be possible grounds for divorce. But once I was used to it, well, I need it hard every night.

Which made last night a bad night.

The day had started badly with a disgustingly early start at 0900. But then, instead of heading towards Bangkok before taking the major roads towards the East, we headed north east and hugged the border (Cambodia, Laos, Uruguay?); and the roads were a delight. Smooth, quiet roads in pleasant countryside, much better than fighting it out on the main highways.

Early afternoon and we arrived at the Khmer temples. A couple of hours and then it was off to Surin and the Thong Tarin hotel. Full marks to the satnav on the iPhone, which delivered us to the door without the need for the heated argument that would otherwise have ensued.

Rooms were scarce and we ended up with a junior suite for the price of a Mars bar. The wallpaper was a lurid green, the carpet was supporting alien life, and the bed was very soft. Every time she who must be obeyed shuffled around trying to get comfortable, I was bounced towards the water-stained ceiling. She did a lot of shuffling, I did a lot of bouncing; it was a bad night.

Have now just had “breakfast” in what appears to be a war zone. Looking forward to getting out of here and being on the road again.

Mars bars must be very expensive in Thailand. The internet rate for a junior suite at the Thong Tarinhotel is 4500 baht per night!

Don’t worry about the receipt (I don’t have a fax facility) but that’s a very expensive Mars bar, especially at the current exchange rate. Maybe published rates are just for farangs who don’t have beautiful Thai companions like SWMBO, and get ripped off. Shame, shame.
