Songkran can be fun for kids:

It can also be miserable:

Same for adults. I had a little drive around this morning when things were quiet, and snapped the above. Then, late in the afternoon, we went down to beach road to join in the “fun”. Needless to say I was soaked and covered in sticky talcum powder in minutes, but it was all good-natured and enjoyable in a masochistic sort of way. Around 1800 we headed for home, normally a ten minute journey. This evening it took us three hours, two of which were spent travelling no more than 50 metres on Pattaya Klang. We would still be there now if it was not for one of she who must be obeyed’s demon shortcuts. Normally these end up in a field or a dead end, but tonight she came good.
Have some watery shots taken on beach road, will post them tomorrow. Right now, need gin; and tonic.

2010-04-20| Spike saysActually, we were two hours and twenty minutes on Pattaya Klang. During that time we went from the lights on beach road to less than half way to second road. Every fifteen minutes or so, we moved a car length. It was total gridlock. Five years living in Bangkok and I never experienced anything as bad as this. Fortunately, SWMBO could keep popping out to buy snacks.
