My name is Mobi and I'm an alcoholic

· 924 words · 5 minute read

We are about to embark on a one week tour of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai with visiting friends. This means no posts for several days, and a deluge of posts and photos when I return. With the arrival of the lovely Panasonic GF1, I no longer feel the need to drag my monster DSLR and a bag of lenses along, so travelling light with photo gear will be a pleasant change.

Not that I am implying that there is anything worth reading on Pattaya Days , but should you be in need of a read over the next week, you could do a lot worse than this:

http://mobithailand.com/

Mobi is an alcoholic, and over the past six months or so he has been recording his battle against the addiction, and charting the course of his life which to a great extent explains why he is such a troubled person. Successful in his professional life, he has sought out challenge and conflict in both work and personal relationships (he has a dangerous predilection for bar girls); and has used alcohol as a buffer to manage the resulting stress. It’s a sad but fascinating life story, told without excuses. Having followed him for a few months, I felt genuinely saddened when he fell off the wagon (again) a few days ago. Highly recommended, but start at his first post and work forward.

Updates next Sunday. Have a good week.

Enjoy your travels.

I prefer Stans site, more pictures less words, much better for us antipodeans ;-)

Have a good trip. I’ll try both Mobi and Stan in the interim.

Spike .. who approved your holiday request? Your readership requires their daily fix …

Mobi’s escapades would make a good book … well written and every bit as good as ‘Hardship Postings’ by Stu Lloyd which continues to sell well.

Seems to prove the point that if you want to become a Millionaire in Thailand you better arrive with several millions as there is more than one way to skin a ferang ..or make a ferang skint !!

Must disagree with Lloyd. Good as Stan’s work is, he covers a limited number of topics, mainly friends (fat or otherwise), their families and their food. Our Spike, on the other hand, has a magnificent range of subjects and photography. He has been very sparing with photos of females lately though.

Genuine, I think Lloyd was comparing Stan’s site to Mobi’s not this one.

Must agree with you that we need more pictures of the femme fatales though !!

I’ve just been reading more of Mobi’s lifestory … I guess there’s a little bit of Mobi in all of us …

however my ‘justhowmuchlikemobiami’ gauge is ticking up over 50% (no abusive father and only 1 wife (to date) … not Thai) .. and I’m only at the Septemeber blogs … should I be worried?

Yes I was comparing Stan’s site with Mobi’s, however after reading more of the site and of Mobi’s escapades with the “ladies” of late, presuming they are in fact ladies as Pattaya being the place it is, I think if he put in a few pictures he could be on to a bloody winner.

The guys not only crazy he’s got the money and balls to admit it and back it up!

Jock… as evidence of my sad existence when I’m not in Thailand, I’ve spent the last two days reading Mobi’s story. Worry you should not. Your “justhowmuch..” guage will be back below 20% by the time you get up to January. I can’t decide whether Mobi deserves sympathy, pity or scorn but he sure has shifted some dough. And alcohol.

Genuine … phew that’s a relief … I’ve just devoured the whole blog these last few days and it really is a fascinating story … rise to fame and then down the preverbial toilet …

still I think his addiction is more towards Thai girls than alcohol and he really does come across as being pussy whipped … which is OK by the hour BTW …

Good to see the children continuing to play in the absence of His Spikeness … though it might be an idea to tell the bugger that he should plan future visits only to places with good internet connections …

Like pubs you mean Billy ?

2010-01-21 | Billy says

Indeed - and restaurants and the club houses of the better golf courses :-)

Seems like Mobi has had a bad few days; can’t leave you guys in charge of anything.

Just a reminder that Mobi continues to explore the danger zones of prostitutes and alcohol; plus some cracking stories of his time in Nigeria.
