Thanks for the memory

· 189 words · 1 minute read

Have been searching for something suitable for backing-up my photos while in India, and today I decided that a couple of 16GB memory sticks would do the job. Just over 1,000 baht each (which gives an exchange rate of approximately 45GB per toilet seat).

I am reminded of “the old days” when memory cost more and took up a whole load more space. Here’s a 16GB memory stick next to a thirty year old Atari 800 16k memory module from the second computer I ever owned (and cannot bring myself to dispose of).

Memory

A hundred thousand times A million times Much more storage packed into something even smaller than my genitals. Genius.

For not much more money you could have picked yourself up a micro external HD with 120Gb 3.5" Flash drive, not quite as compact tho.

True; but it would probably have needed a separate power supply, and this is an easy carry solution.

Certainly a more striking example.
