There is a proud history of journalists and photographers who operate in the danger zones of the world, to bring us a different perception of the reality as seen from the ground, as opposed to the Fox News version written thousands of miles away from the safety of a well-stocked bar. People like Robert Fisk, Robert Kapa and James Nachwey. A different breed of men.

But the front lines of Iraq and Afghanistan pale into insignificance compared to the battleground that is Pattaya Beach Road. The cheap bag salemen, the stalls full of crap, the endless hookers; it’s hell out there.

So it was most inspiring to see a representative of Pattaya People Television braving the conditions with nothing more to protect him than red and white spotted shirt and a ridiculous hat. Still, I suppose it was the only way to remain inconspicuous.
