Good food

On occasions, I enjoy a pint of Guinness and some typical pub food. In spite of the extensive and unpleasant farting that inevitably follows such an outing, she who must be obeyed is always on the lookout for new Guinness serving locations; and last night she took me to one on Pratumnak Road.

It should be called Garas, but as it is an “Irish Pub” they call it O’Garas. Most of the other Irish bars around town tend to look a bit shabby and smell a bit musty. Maybe this one will fall into line over time, but as of now it looks spanking new and shiny, and because they actually enforce the law and do not allow smoking, it smells fresh too.

The Guinness is Guinness and it made me fart as I would expect (you needed to know that). And the food is excellent; at least what we ate certainly was. My pork chop was massive and was served with a gravy which appeared to be more than 90% ginger; fantastic.

Of course you don’t get much change out of 1,000 baht once you have had food for two and a pint of Guinness (she who must be obeyed drank water, which I felt was rather extravagant). So not for everyday eating, at least not for us. But she who must be obeyed has also found a Thai restaurant in Pratumnak Soi 4 which is our new favourite local food outlet.

I had lunch there today. Big plate of pork noodles with a bottle of water: 45 baht. The food is always fresh and not greasy like so many places, the staff are friendly, the location is quiet and looks out over grassland, and it is cheap. They don’t do draft Guinness though.
