Drip, drip, drip

· 527 words · 3 minute read

The owner of the condo two floors below me is experiencing water leaks. Walls are damp and lumpy and he is upset. The consensus is that the sprinkler system is sprinkling in places where it shouldn’t, and his unit is not currently ablaze, so it shouldn’t be sprinkling at all.

Much gnashing of teeth and complaining to the management company, on the grounds that the sprinkler system is a condo asset and they should fix it. After some investigation they discover that the water is coming from the condo above. After more investigation they discover that the water is coming from the condo above the condo that is above the man who has lumpy walls. And that means me. Bugger.

We have a small back balcony, accessible only by climbing out of a window. She who must be obeyed had turned it into a small forest of plants which looked very attractive and only required to be hosed down on a regular basis. The forest was removed and the culprit was discovered not to be the sodden flora, but a condensation outlet from my computer room which was nowhere near a drain.

I use my computer room aircon often (like, now) and the constant drip from the outlet had, over the years, softened the concrete and made a nice little waterfall down into the condos below. There are mutterings of my having to pay for the repairs below, but meantime I have spent a sweaty day plugging the gap and constructing a (yes, you guessed it) blue plastic pipe to route the water to the drain.

More pipe

Next step is to clean up and paint the whole area. She who must be obeyed fancies some fancy tiles and some form of statue. I think an effigy of me brandishing a length of blue plastic pipe would be most appropriate.

Hopefully you won’t have to pay for any of the other repairs…if they try just use the defense that everything leaks in Thailand.

Computers indeed have a lot to answer for than we think … though usually more psychological than physical in my experience ..

Ah, I sense a Windows user with the “duplicate blog post” virus.

Maybe - but Windows seems to actually correct the wording before re-posting it. Not sure a Mac can do that …..
