Not surprisingly, one of the first things I noticed when I first moved to Asia some twenty years ago was that it was hot (I am a most perceptive man). But what was surprising (to me) is that it stayed hot all night. Midnight in Kuala Lumpur was not noticeably different from midday in terms of temperatures. And it was the same when I moved to Sarawak and then Brunei, twenty four hours of hotness.
But when I moved to Bangkok I found that Thailand has a winter, and an exceedingly pleasant winter it is too. From approximately December to February, the winds come down from China, bringing cooler air and blue skies. Had to drag a sweater out of the drawer in Bangkok, and if you headed to the north of the country you would need a warm coat for the near-zero temperatures. Pattaya is less cool, but we do get the north east monsoon winds, and they are great for windsurfing.
And over the last few days the monsoon winds seem to have arrived. This morning the Thai windsurfing team was whizzing out in the bay in front of my condo.

This would be a cue for me to go whizzing too, but I can’t. Damn.
