Thailand’s politicians have a well-earned reputation for corruption, cronyism and downright thievery. It has always been so. Thaksin was particularly good at it, and the new boy Samak and his gang of hangers-on were showing all the signs of continuing the tradition.
So, given the generally accepted level of dishonesty and greed that is inherent in the position of Prime Minister of Thailand, it is exceedingly bizarre that Samak was this afternoon disqualified from the job on the grounds that he was moonlighting by hosting two cooking shows on TV.
Well done Thailand, if you are going to sack a Prime Minister, at least do it for a reason that will make the rest of the world giggle.
