On the road again

Tomorrow morning, at the ungodly hour of 0600, I will be heading off for a couple of days photography. My turn to drive and I have spent the afternoon loading 14 hours of classic music tracks onto my iPhone, from Anggun to Zwan via Daft Punk, Fiona Apple and My Chemical Romance. Nik is about to be aurally enhanced (in my opinion).

We are heading somewhere between Bangkok and Hua Hin and have a number of locations identified; or at least Nik has. He thinks we can do it all in a day, I think we will be back on Wednesday. If anything exciting happens, I will attempt a blog entry via iPhone; otherwise, normal rubbish will be resumed later in the week.

Anggun and Daft Punk, two French acts in a list of five compiled by a Brit. Now that would please Napoleon!

Anggun, if im not wrong she used to be Indonesian.

She’s a French citizen (might still have Indonesian citizenship though) and she’s signed to a French record company since her first album with international resonance was released.

She looks too cute to be French, although she has indeed taken French citizenship. I must also admit to having the Prototypes in the collection, who even sing in French. Nothing German though, as far as I can recall; what am I missing….?

French record companies have an innovative and aggressive signing policy which means that you probably have more French acts than you think in your collection. Got Keziah Jones and Marianne Faithfull? Art Brut or The Do maybe? Asian Dub Foundation? The Germans are the exact contrary. Not only do they not have decent acts but they almost never sign foreign acts (apart from a few excellent world music and jazz acts). Germany is a great country for classical music, not for pop music.

If you do not know Camille, you’re missing her. Sorry, French stuff again… http://www.myspace.com/camilleofficial http://www.last.fm/music/Camille

You are right, I am missing something. Just checked her out on YouTube, weirdly wonderful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lObVFcyW2iM&NR=1

She will be added to the collection immediately; even if she is French!

This tune is from the 2nd album (2005). Her 3rd and latest one, “Music Hole” is almost entirely in English and it’s awesome!

D’you know The Do? Nowhere as good and crazy as Camille but interesting: http://songza.com/z/m1xre9

Somewhat strident for my delicate ears; but I will listen to more.

In return I offer Plague Park by the Handsome Furs. Not French at all.

I appear to have wandered onto the wrong blog, one all about weird music, I am sure there used to be a cute quite funny blog thing around here with pictures of pit babes, the sexual organs of flowers and half constructed buildings, any idea where they moved??

2008-08-13 | mart says

Just a one-off Billy! Looking for some new exciting construction sites and mating season for pit babes is due to begin soon…

One man’s weird is another man’s wonderful; just remember some of the women Jock has been with. And anyone who professes a liking for Alice Cooper can hardly be qualified to identify weird.

I hate Alice Cooper but I like ‘Who The F*ck is Alice’ …

must check out some of the tracks posted above !!

Photos of the sub-t(er)rain market were superb.

“just remember some of the women Jock has been with” Got some pics to share before the mating season for pit babes starts?

2008-08-14 | Spike says

Send money and I will see if I can find some.
