An afternoon at the wheelchair basketball and it’s Iran and South Korea in the final. Who to support?
Should I go for South Korea, facing off against the evil regime to their north?
Or Iran, joining North Korea in the exclusive axis of evil club, as designated by the leader of the free world? Ignored by the west during the Iran/Iraq war when hundreds of thousands were killed by western supplied chemical weapons, they now have the audacity to develop nuclear capacities which, given another ten years or so, could be developed into nuclear weapons. This is clearly unacceptable, only the peace-loving Israel is allowed nuclear bombs in that part of the world.
So, Iran it is then, a wise choice confirmed by the big smiles I get from the athletes when I photograph them warming up. One of them wheels himself over to me and we discuss how they won last time and hope to do so again. Then he asks me where I come from. I say “England” and wait for him to run over my foot. Instead I get a wink and a high five. The axis of evil works in strange ways.
The match is very physical and exciting, but hard to photograph because of the very low light. Lots of blur and noise in the photos.

It was not clear which team this man was supporting:

Thanks almost entirely to my vocal support, Iran won. There was also a small contribution from their genes which had built them about twice the size of the South Korean team.
