After little more than a week of employment, she who must be obeyed came home and announced she was leaving (the job, not me). The reason for her departure was mainly due to the fact that another company had called her and offered her more than twice her current salary. In addition, the company she was currently with was not advertising properties in the local media because they “had run out of budget”, which meant that commission earning potential was much reduced. In a gesture that reflected the level of loyalty that one week’s employment generates, she walked out of the office and dropped them an email later to tell them she would not be coming back.
So today she is off to join her new employer. If her salary increases continue like this, we will be in a position to purchase a small island in a month or so. Although last night she was cruising the web and muttering “month one, Prada, month two Gucci”; which presumably means that funds are already being allocated for the acquisition of handbags. I have been informed that I must make more cupboard space available for storage of same. Every salary increase has a downside.
