Minus one windsurf board, plus one SUP

· 429 words · 3 minute read

We have far too many windsurfing boards. With the wife now working, it seems sensible that we should sell her board. I should re-phrase that first sentence; I have too many windsurfing boards. She has one, and it is now for sale. And here it is (this is a photo of the actual board):

If you happen to be a windsurfer linking from www.iwindsurf.asia, it’s a Futura 122 with two fins, one previous lady owner and low mileage. Talk to Craig if you are interested.

The funds that will eventually be received from the new and very lucky owner (call Craig, now!), should be ploughed back into the household, to help pay for some renovations we are planning. But they won’t be, because I have already spent them on a new SUP board.

I am not sure of the attraction. You stand on a plank and paddle it along. You fall off a lot (at least, I do). Surfing one down a wave of any size seems like a distant dream. And maybe that is why I like it; because it is not that easy, but every time I try it it, it feels a little easier, so it does seem possible that I can master it over time. Or at least not fall off so much. And whatever I do, it is going to work a load of muscles that don’t normally get worked and make me fitter than I am right now.

So I have placed my order for an Ultimate Blend, which sounds like a coffee but is a medium sized board which will be fun to just paddle around and catch some waves near my condo. We don’t have waves the size of this:

But we do have waves the size of this:

And if I substitute a couple of cats for the dog, I will be able to do this:

The board comes with an aluminium paddle, but if I can sell the wife’s sail (Gator, 8.0, talk to Craig), then I will upgrade to carbon fibre. Perhaps I can sell some of her handbags too (she would never notice), then I could buy a bag for the SUP.
