The results are in, and we have a new major. I can take some small pride in knowing that my previous publicity for candidate number 2 has resulted in a win for same. He is better known as Ittipon Khumpleum, and he has already outlined his policies for the future:
· environmental improvement · the implementation of an effective water supply for the city and Kho Larn (Coral Island) · a 12-year free education system · low-cost housing for low income groups · a new, improved traffic system · a tramline transportation system · flood prevention · job opportunities to decrease poverty · the eradication of Pattaya’s red-light venue – Walking Street · the establishment of a drug-observation and prevention centre · the encouragement of ecotourism · the construction of a sports centre · the establishment of a tourism festival · the encouragement of world-class entertainment
No mention of sorting out the half-built roads; but we won’t be needing roads once the trams are in place…
No mention either of sorting out the gangs and assorted mafia that operate in the city. This certainly will have nothing to do with the fact that Ittipon’s father is currently sought by the police having been convicted of corruption a couple of years ago. The father is also accused of hiring hitmen to murder a business rival. The father’s whereabouts are currently unknown, perhaps he could come back and run the trams?
