While the rest of the world plunges into a property succession, the agents and builders of Pattaya are trying to convince us that the boom times are still here. And indeed there are large number of new developments being launched; where launching involves a punchy, if meaningless, slogan, a website with elevator music and some optimistic artist’s impressions. There is also a hole in the ground which may or may not be developed over time; but give us your money now and watch your investment grow (or evaporate).
We passed a couple today. Reflection is situated on a scruffy road next to a scruffy beach and the structural progress to date would indicate they are building a bus station. Maybe this is what “Beyond Seascape Living” means? Beyond a seascape, there is a bus station. There is also a large graphic of a seagull gliding over a pristine sea. This is strange because I have never seen a seagull here, I think they drank the less-than pristine sea water and died.

A little further down the beach and what used to be a derelict housing block has suddenly becomes Musselana. Here we are not offered something as trivial as beyond seascape living. Oh no, here you can experience “The Living of Art”, whatever that means. Check their website and they have another slogan which helps explain the first: “Your privacy beyond horizon.”
On the building there is a poster which features the perfect couple lounging on the edge of the infinity pool which looks directly out over the ocean. A shame that the pool actually looks out over the scruffy road. Still, unlikely that prospective purchasers would spot that.

Next to the building there is another poster of the perfect couple sitting on a perfect beach next to a perfect sea.

Beat the traffic across the scruffy road and you can find the real beach and the real sea; and that’s at low tide. If you don’t break your legs on the rocks, you can try sitting on the beach at high tide to experience the drowning of living of art.
